Saddle repairs include relining skirts with bark tanned shearling, repairing rigging, replacing stirrup leathers, strings, horn covers, cantle bindings, repairing damaged stitching etc.
Restoration
Collectible and historic saddles deserve special attention to deal with the ravages of time and use. These saddles are dis-assembled and thoroughly cleaned to remove decades of dirt and saddle soap.The components are re-shaped to their original contours. Skirts are re-lined, damaged pieces are repaired or replaced. Original stamping and carving is copied on any new pieces which are then dyed to match the original. The leather is treated with conditioner and buffed to a shine, ready for display in your collection.
Reconditioning
Saddles are first inspected to identify whether repairs are required. In many cases older saddles can be made serviceable again with a thorough cleaning, re-shaping panels that may have dried and curled. Metal hardware is cleaned. The saddle is oiled and conditioner applied.
